With the 2010 NFL Draft almost a month behind us, we are reminded once again of the ridiculous contracts handed on silver platters to players who haven't played a down of professional football yet. Depending largely on where the players were snatched up in order of the draft, the contracts have continued to soar through the roof with increasing pay scales and larger guaranteed signing bonuses.
Rookie contracts, particularly high first-round picks, can make or break a franchise not just because of the stock placed into such a high pick, but also because of the amount of money invested into that one player as well.
The skyrocketing contracts have become a sticking point for several first-round draft picks to hold out for more money- hurting not only the team that drafted them, but also the hold-out missing all the practices and camps needed to get acclimated with the speed of the game and the system of the team.
