Concurrent Causation Insurance
Military personnel may be eligible to enroll in the VA health care system if they served on active military duty, were released from service under any condition other than a dishonorable discharge, and served for the required minimum amount of time (which depends on the dates of service).
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, the VA operates "the nation’s largest integrated health care system, with more than 1,400 sites of care, including hospitals, community clinics, community living centers, domiciliaries, readjustment counseling centers, and various other facilities."
Of course, the core element of the VA health care system is its standardized Medical Benefits Package, which affords access to the above-mentioned VA care facilities and covers preventive care services, outpatient services, inpatient treatments, and certain medications for veterans who are eligible to receive treatment within the VA health care system. Additionally, retired veterans who would like to supplement their VA health care coverage may be eligible for health insurance supplemental plans via TRICARE, which offers military-approved policies sold by private insurance companies (such as Humana).
